Blue Bleu 

The following was written by a girl from RGS, liked it when me read it and so ripped it off from the Teenage Magazine of the June issue and typed it painstakingly wholesale here.

We may be looking at the same colour, but we see different pictures forming in our heads. Perhaps you would see the azure blue sky dotted with cotton candy clouds, and the sapphire sea studded with sparkling diamonds.

Where these two extraordinary pieces of blue meet, a faraway line forms that reminds us of our unfulfilled dreams, and looking at this a sight is a girl with crystal blue eyes brimming with tears. In this awesome picture, the colour blue was the sky; it was the sea; it was the girl's eyes, it was the sadness in her; it was the calmness of the sea. Thus, blue is the colour of nature; it denotes sadness and calmness, as well as being a very common colour in our everyday life.

The sky is blue; the sea is blue; the river is blue too. The sky's vastness inspires my imagination on the wonders of the earth. It makes me marvel at how all of the world's miracles had once happened under this incredibly large piece of the blue. The sky is home to many of the birds, and when we see the birds soaring in the sky freely, it makes us think of the freedom that we enjoy, being in charge of our lives. The sea has been a kind friend of the human race, providing us with food to sustain life. However, its stunning blue waters have been tainted in the recent years. Why does man pollute the seas and destroy the oceans? We are also thankful to the rivers that birthed civilisation. If not for the remarkable rivers, we may not have been able to even live in the era of modern technology. Our ancestors had once relied on these rivers for their daily neccessities. The river brought them food and water; it made them wealthy through the trade that took place along the river. Blue has turned out to be the colour of the blessings that Mother Nature had bestowed upon man.

Colours are actually a medium to convey emotions, so has the colour blue ever evoked any feelings in you? Sadness can be felt through the colour blue, and perhaps a wave of melancholy would come over you. Just like how we can see the sadness in the girls watery blue eyes. You feel a sense of pity for her and wonder if the blue in her eyes were actually powerful enough to make your heart melt. If you go to the beach, have you ever felt the calmness of the blue sea? The relaxing blue of seawater makes you forget all your troubles instantly and feel like the most fortunate person on earth.

Blue can be found everywhere in our daily live, it is all around us and perhaps even avoidable. Many school-going children and teenagers wear blue school uniforms, like the policemen. Other than that, we always see that male toilets are painted blue, maybe because it is recognised as a masculine colour. When we go to work or school in the morning, colourful advertisements at the bus-stops catch our attention, and these usually contain blue. When we go the the food-court, these are definitely blue cutlery or blue menus as blue aprons for the stallholder or cleaners.

Even in the English language, there are traces of blue. For 'once in a blue moon' we could come across a 'blue-eyed boy' with 'blue blood' feeling rather 'blue'. The word 'blue' can express various meanings and also at the same time add colour to our sentences. How is blue not a unique colour in its own sense? What other colours would have the same privilege to be the colour of nature, to have the ability to expressions emotions such as sadness and calmness, to be able appear all over the world in our daily lives as well as used in language? I wonder what the world would be without blue.
